Laptop de Apple with Intel is a good step
I am writing this column in a fast and elegant portable computer that has an Intel microprocessor. Nevertheless, unlike the great majority de laptop that uses the Chips de Intel, this machine does not work with the operating system Windows. One is the most recent portable computer de Apple Computer and first laptop de the company with the Intel processors. Like the rest de the computers de Apple, this works with the excellent operating system Mac You X instead de Windows.
My verdict: MacBook Pro is the best one between the three, although it has his disadvantages. She is faster than portable the previous ones de Apple but, in practical terms, its speed does not come near at the level promised by Apple. To a price de US$1.999 in the United States, the same de the PowerBook to which it is replacing, MacBook Pro leaves more face than the model HP. But, in my opinion, the cost difference is more than justified by its design and functions superiors. Apple says that MacBook Pro will be available in all distributers in Latin America as de this month.
Apple decided to adopt the Chips de Intel with the hope to increase to the speed de processing de its machines maintaining the lowest temperatures. The company rewrote its operating system and sdetware I commit so that Macintosh worked with the Intel processors. But some de the programs published by other companies, like the version de Microsdet defice for the Mac, will not be rewritten by some time, so Apple had to incorporate a sdetware de invisible translation, which can decelerate a little the processing. In spite de that disadvantage, it seemed to me that MacBook Pro has more vigor than the PowerBook, showing with less frequency the beach ball the icon used by Apple to indicate delay.
In my speed trialses, MacBook Pro went superior to the PowerBook in tasks like import de photos and music, recording de CD, navigation in Internet and launching de programs. But in its majority, the speed difference was minimum. Even in the cases in that MacBook Pro was well-known faster, it did not arrive nor near the increase de 400% promised by Apple. In some de my tests, new laptop was, in fact, a little slower than the PowerBook.
I did not realize a complete test de speed against the portable one de HP, because the sdetware differences make a comparison difficult. But using the version Windows de the sdetware de music de Apple, iTunes, I discovered that laptop de HP was faster than the MacBook to copy songs de a CD, but slower at the time de recording them to a CD.
In my exhaustive test de battery, in that I deactivate all the functions de energy saving and reproduce music without stopping, MacBook Pro lasted two hours and 59 minutes, exactly just like the PowerBook, and 12 minutes more than the HP. MacBook Pro also comes with Front Row, the new interface de Apple for reproduction de videos, photos and music, and a remote control for operation at a distance. Also it has built-in a camera, for videoconferences. The PowerBook does not count on any de those new features.
But the MacBook has less ports USB than the PowerBook. And it has a new groove, narrower than the standard de the industry, for memory cards. Unfortunately, almost no existing card in the market was designed for the dimensions de that groove. The HP dv5000t has a screen de the same size, the same amount de memory and the same processor that the MacBook Pro de US$1.999. Also it comes with an interface from remote operation, Windows Media Center call, and a remote control. In addition, it counts on some functions that do not exist in the machine de Apple, among them a special groove for memory cards de digital cameras and an external tuner de TV. By US$1.659 after discounts in the United States, it seems a gangue in comparison to MacBook Pro. But the hard disk de the HP model is much more small, 60 gigabytes against 80, and de that total 13.3 gigabytes are dedicated to a special program de HP for recovery de sdetware.
In order to cause that the capacity de storage de model HP comes near to the one de MacBook Pro, it would be necessary to invest in a greater hard disk, which would reduce the advantage de price de the HP model.
